HYBRID MEETING | 9-11 November 2023 • ABC7 21

Welcome Dear Colleagues, It is with great pleasure that I invite you to join us at the Advanced Breast Cancer Seventh International Consensus Conference (ABC 7) that will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on 9–11 November 2023. The ABC Consensus Conference has established itself as the major international conference for advanced breast cancer. Its uniqueness resides in the central role of ABC patients and in its truly global reach. We strongly believe that health professionals working closely together with patients and advocates and with the strong support of the media can raise awareness and effectively lobby in favor of this previously underserved and often forgotten group of patients. The conference's primary goal is the development of international consensus guidelines for the management of advanced breast cancer. These guidelines are based on the most up-to date evidence and can be used to guide treatment decision-making in a wide variety of different health care settings globally, with the necessary adaptations due to different access to care. Throughout the years, these guidelines have been endorsed by several international organizations, and many organizations around the world have been adapting them to their country specific environment, particularly in terms of promoting accessibility both to health care services and new therapeutic agents. ABC also aims to be a forum to analyze and discuss the latest scientific updates in the field, to identify research priorities and important areas of unmet needs, as well as influence policy makers, regulatory and funding bodies and ultimately improve standards of care, survival and quality of life for all patients living with ABC worldwide. The ABC consensus conference started from the desire to address and change the sense of abandonment and invisibility experienced by many patients with ABC patients and the urgent need to change their outcomes. In 2011 the European School of Oncology pioneered this initiative and today the conference has evolved and, is organized by the ABC Global Alliance. The ABC Global Alliance is an independent non-profit multistakeholder organization dedicated exclusively to improve and extend the lives of women and men living with ABC worldwide, and currently has more than 200 members in over 90 countries worldwide. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our last meeting (ABC 6) was held virtually and brought together around 1.000 participants from 67 countries around the world, including health professionals, patients, advocates, and journalists. Fortunately, this year, we will be able to meet again face-to-face and enjoy the powerful and passionate interactions among attendees. All topics will be presented from the perspective of a multidisciplinary approach, from basic research through to clinical implementation. The conference will again close with a consensus session aimed at updating the ABC guidelines. It is my pleasure to invite you to join us in Lisbon for the 7th edition of the Advanced Breast Cancer International Consensus Conference (ABC7), and to work with us to improve the lives of all ABC patients.
